Robert Lewandowski is running at 1.07 goals per game this season (29 in 27 games). He did even better last season: 1.17.
André-Pierre Gignac has scored ten goals in his last nine matches in all competitions. He has found the net in his last six outings.
“If we win the Club World Cup, we will achieve one of the greatest achievements in football history. Not just for Bayern or for Germany. It would be one of the greatest things achieved in the world. history of world football. ” – Robert Lewandowski
“André-Pierre Gignac plays a fundamental role for the Tigers. He’s the one who sets the tempo. Technically, he impresses me. He really leads the team. He knows when to speed up and when to slow down. He is decisive. C it’s hard to stop him from scoring penalties. ” – Kaka
They almost went under the radar
Lewandowski: “He had very skinny legs. I kept telling him that if he didn’t eat more bacon sandwiches to fill himself up, he would never get anywhere. But the years went by and his legs stayed too. thin as drumsticks. ” The anecdote is told by Krzysztof Sikorski, coach at the club where Lewandowski played from eight to 16 years old. Perhaps this explains why the striker made his debut in the Polish Fifth Division. Or that after joining the youth categories of Legia Warsaw, he was released by the club without having joined the first team, because he was considered too frail.
Lewandowski is told he has to give up his football career dreams, but he loves watching Thierry Henry play and is determined to follow in his footsteps. So he worked hard to move from the third to the second Polish division, before reaching the first division, of which he became the flagship player, allowing Lech Poznan to win his first Ekstraklasa (Polish championship) in 17 years.
Gignac : “I was told that if I was not able to make my place at a club which was heading towards the CFA and which could not recruit because of its financial difficulties, then I had no future in football.” At the age of 16, Gignac was released by FC Martigues, a club in his hometown, and encouraged to invest in his education. But he clung to his dreams of a career in football and two years later, he made a thunderous debut for the pros with FC Lorient in Ligue 2. Moments after entering the game, he scored the goal of victory.
Despite everything, he does not find his place in the workforce of Hake and is sent on loan to Pau FC, in National. After an anonymous first season at Toulouse FC, he exploded there during his second exercise: he finished top scorer in Ligue 1 with 24 units, far ahead of his immediate pursuers, Karim Benzema and Guillaume Hoarau.

Two penalty specialists
To date, Gignac has 13 consecutive penalties scored under the colors of the Tigers. Its last three failures occurred in August 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Robert Lewandowski was on 17 penalties in a row until his last attempt was rejected by Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Rune Jarstein. The Norwegian became the second goalkeeper to prevent the Pole from scoring from a Bundesliga penalty after Manuel Neuer, who came in front of him in 2013, when the Polish forward was playing at Borussia Dortmund.
Gignac was part of the Olympique de Marseille squad who faced Bayern Munich in the quarter-final of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League. This team in which we also found César Azpilicueta, Mathieu Valbuena and the Ayew brothers was led by a certain Didier Deschamps, world champion in France 1998 as a player and in Russia 2018 as a coach. Gignac had entered during the game in the first leg. Bayern had won 4-0 over both meetings.
But Gignac has already cheated Neuer with a successful header in the 2-0 victory of the Blues against Germany in a friendly in 2015.
Lewandowski’s father played in the Polish second division, but it was in judo that he distinguished himself the most, as evidenced by his title of champion of Poland. The Bavarian striker’s mother was a volleyball player, a sport also played by his sister. The center-forward’s wife Anna Lewandowska has won several medals at the World Karate Championships.
Gignac is cousin with Panathinaikos winger Yohan Mollo and with former Marseille defender Jacques Abardonado.

Lewandowski is one of only two players to have received the Polish Sportsman of the Year title, which has been awarded 86 times. After Zbigniew Boniek in 1982, the striker was nominated in 2015 and 2020.
At UEFA EURO 2016, Gignac became the first player outside Europe to be called up for the French team. He appeared in six matches and hit the post in the last minute of regulation time in the final against Portugal.
