Having received confirmation that Auckland City FC could not participate in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup ™ due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the quarantine measures required by New Zealand authorities, FIFA has modified match schedule of the competition.
The opening match is canceled, but the competition format remains unchanged. On the other hand, the stadiums which will host the competition will be the stadium of the City of Education and the Ahmad ben Ali stadium; the Khalifa International stadium, which was initially planned, will ultimately not be used.
The Ahmad ben Ali stadium will host the first match of the tournament on February 4 at 5:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. CET), while the winner will be crowned at the Cité de l’Education stadium on February 11 following the final which begins. at 9:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. CET).
The clubs that will play in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup are Al-Duhail SC, Al Ahly SC, FC Bayern Munich, Ulsan Hyundai FC, Tigres UANL and the winner of the Copa Libertadores of CONMEBOL, whose final is scheduled January 30.
With the withdrawal of Auckland City FC, the host team (Al-Duhail SC) is directly qualified for the second round.
The teams involved will know their respective opponents at the end of the draw scheduled in Zurich on January 19 at 4:00 p.m. (CET).
