On the road to Qatar 2020
Tigres UANL qualified for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup Qatar after winning the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time. The Tigers started their journey in the round of 16, where they beat the Salvadorians of Alianza (5-4 in aggregate), before easily dismissing New York City (5-0 in aggregate) in the quarterfinals and Olimpia (3-0) in the semi-final. In the final against Los Angeles, after falling 0-1, they turned the tide to win 2-1.
Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti is one of the most experienced technicians in Liga MX. He has been in charge of the Tigers since 2010 and therefore knows a team with whom he has won five championships in Mexico. He advocates an organized and tactically disciplined football, which leaves no space behind and perfectly exploits the offensive strengths of its workforce.
What we can expect
The Felines have been working in continuity for several years. Complicity is one of their greatest qualities. The emblematic player is André-Pierre Gignac. Arrived at the club five years ago, the French striker has already become the top scorer in the history of the institution. Nahuel Guzmán brings safety to his goal line, while in midfield, the balance is ensured by Guido Pizarro.
At the state
4 – that’s the number of finals the Tigers had to play before winning their first CONCACAF Champions League. Before the coronation of 2020, they had stumbled on the last step in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
