- World champion Daniele de Rossi tells us about The Best
- Lewandowski and Flick are his favorites …
- … but: “Messi remains the best”
Italian Daniele de Rossi has had an exceptional career at the highest level. 2006 world champion with the Blue Team, the international midfielder took part in two other finals of the FIFA World Cup ™, in 2010 and 2014. In total, he graced 117 caps for the Italian team. At club level, he is still considered a living legend by AS Roma supporters, which did not prevent him from wearing the colors of Boca Juniors before hanging up his boots.
On the sidelines of the preliminary draw for the European qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ™, de Rossi shared with us a few secrets about The Best FIFA Football Awards ™.
Daniele de Rossi, who will be voted The Best – FIFA Player in 2020?
Messi remains the best footballer. But if we focus on the last 12 months, I think the prize will go to Robert Lewandowski. He won the Champions League, he scored a lot of goals and when you observe him closely on the pitch, you realize that he is one of the very greats.
What about the FIFA Men’s Football Coach?
There, it is more complicated. All applicants have an impressive business card. In general, the winner is the one who has won the most titles. This is the reason why Hansi Flick (Bayern Munich) is favorite. In any case, he deserves to win. A coach who arrives at a club six months before the end of the season, has to face a pandemic that completely changes the face of football and ends up winning everything has nothing to envy to others.
Personally, who is the greatest player you have known in your career?
I have played with a lot of great footballers. I met exceptional champions, but Francesco Totti was the best. He had something different from the others. He was able to find his partners anywhere with his eyes closed. He did things I had never seen on a football field.
What’s the best game of your career?
It might not have been the most beautiful, but the World Cup final on July 9, 2006 marked my life forever. Lifting this Trophy is the dream of all footballers.
Finally, what is the best goal of your career?
To be frank, there isn’t that much to choose from as I haven’t scored a lot! I still think that the most beautiful was the one against Japan, at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 [de Rossi avait ouvert le score après trois minutes de jeu. Score final : 3-2] It was an acrobatic return of the left foot. It’s not the kind of thing I try very often, but it was spectacular.
